Lemonade and water

I like lists.
But it's not just me.
Elara makes lists of the songs she wants to perform at an imaginary concert. She makes lists of the food she wants to serve at her 6th birthday party (in February). She makes lists of the activities she wants to do tomorrow. A few weeks ago, she wrote a list of everything she might need to run her own lemonade stand.
It looked fun.
A perfect activity for the spring holidays.
And an opportunity to learn.

We learnt that little people can do big things.
We learnt that it is good to give our time and money away.
We learnt that $80 will provide safe water for 4 families in a third world country.

We raised $85!

Embrace the Camera: Dogs on the beach

Tried to get a mum + kids photo at the beach,
for Embrace the Camera this week.
But the girls just wanted to 'be' puppies!

(Is there anything as happy as a dog at the beach though?)

Waiting

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a point in life
where everything was 'done'?

I'm sure that it will never be!
Yet, I'm impatient for it.
I want that child to have learnt their lesson.
I want the house to be fully decorated.
I want my business to be up and running.
I want to have lost those 5 kilos already.
I want to be awesome, perfect, finished.

It's folly to wish it.

But I only sometimes wish it.
Sometimes I waste 2 hours of tick-it-off-the-list time, by making a teeny tiny patchwork bag.
Just for fun.
Just because I like fabric.
Just for my girl (who is patiently waiting on two wobbly teeth).

Cute huh? Elara's tooth fairy bag was inspired by this one.

Crafty gifts for girls

Perhaps it's the love of textiles that is passed down from our weaving, wool spinning, embroidering mother line?
Perhaps it's the desire to dress up and stun everyone with our beauty?
Perhaps it's the fact that adding a bow makes anything look pretty?
Whatever it is, I think girl gifts are easier than boy gifts.

And I can't go past a bag or a crown for a little princess present.

Crafty gifts for boys

Boys are happy to have one hundred cars.
I get that.
Boys have plenty of people to buy them said cars.
I get that.
Maybe that's why I don't fight the urge to give something crafted (while they are still young).
Here are a few of my recent gifts for boys...

My favourite! Panel van pants.

For boys both big and tiny.

Electric guitar softie. For the rockers.

I wonder how many years I'll have before it's just too 'uncool' to make gifts for the little boys in my life? When that day comes, I'll be turning to one thing to win them over...

...cake!

Juxtaposition

A few months ago, we went to the Abbey Medieval Festival.

Some of the costumes are amazing!
Here's my (big) little brother, little sister, my Mum and my Dad, all dressed up.

My fair lady sister.

My pretty little princess...

...who joined in the gypsy's dancing circle.

My sweet hooded maiden...

...who found a spot in a tent to play.

And my blue-eyed boy.

Of course there was also jousting, lamb shanks (and all-day spit-roasted pigs), juggling, market stalls, churros and smokey fires at dusk.
Though I loved all the 'long ago' around the place, I still found myself thinking about technology! This gem of a lady took all these photos on her Pentax k5 (which I now have a crush on).

The Overmost

I like them.
I just didn't think that I'd dress my boy in overalls.
Until I bought this pattern, that is.
It's called the overmost and it is fully reversible,
not too difficult to sew,
and very cute.
Especially on my boy!
